One Championships veteran Rocky Batolbatol has passed away after getting hit by a taxi cab while walking across the Gusa Highway in the Philippines, the fighter was 32 years old. Besides Batolbatol, the late fighters cousin in Gennar Ponce, was also struck by the same taxi and has passed away as well.
The driver of the cab who hit Batolbatol has been identified as Jerson Bersabal, who was apprehended by the onlookers in the area until the authorities arrived to make a formal arrest.
Bersabal has denied being intoxicated during the incident, is facing a charge of reckless impudence resulting in a double homicide.
According to a story from ABS CBN, the two relatives were struck right in front of a private hospital (Capitol University Medical Hospital) that wouldn’t treat them. That lead to ambulance drivers getting the duo to the public hospital (JR Borja Public Hospital) and the two men were pronounced dead by the time they arrived to the public hospital.
Batolbatol had earned a record of 5-3-0 as a professional MMA fighter, but went winless during his three fight stint in the One Championships the promotion. Ponce was also an MMA fighter, but little is known about his fighting career.
