Oscar De La Hoya Arrested On Suspicion of DUI

Former world champion and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to ESPN, The arrest occurred very early in the morning of January 25 in Pasadena, California. De La Hoya failed a number of field sobriety tests and was later cited, according to an incident report that was obtained by ESPN. He was released, but this follow a string of issues with alcohol abuse in the past few years.

He was supposed to attend a news conference in Los Angeles that same day to promote the Francisco Vargas vs. Miguel Berchelt world junior lightweight title fight that will be broadcasted on HBO. De La Hoya did not attend the news conference.

Back in 2011, De La Hoya missed Bernard Hopkins' win over Jean Pascal for a world light heavyweight title because he entered rehab a few days prior. In 2013, he returned to rehab again just days before the junior middleweight championship unification fight between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez, the biggest fight in Golden Boy's history.

De La Hoya retired in 2008 after his loss to Manny Pacquiao. He is a former Olympic Gold medalist in the 1992 Summer Games as a lightweight. As a professional boxer, De La Hoya won a total of 10 world titles in 6 different weight classes.
