Top Rank's latest boxing card on ESPN drew some of the strongest viewership numbers it has had all year long.
The June 8 Top Rank on ESPN card averaged 799,000 viewers (314,000 viewers in the 18-49 demo) and drew a 0.56 household rating (0.24 in the 18-49 demo which is 7th best on cable for the day). The card was headlined by the WBO featherweight world title bout between Oscar Valdez and Jason Sanchez.
The June 8 numbers are a big jump from the May 25 card, Top Rank's last ESPN event, headlined by Masayuki Ito vs. Jamel Herring for the WBO super featherweight title. That card, which also had to compete with the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, averaged 556,000 viewers (171,000 viewers in the 18-49 demographic) and drew a 0.38 household rating.
The solid numbers from the June 8 card were helped in large part to the UFC 238 prelims taking place right before it. UFC 238 prelims averaged 964,000 viewers and drew a 0.38 rating in the 18-49 demo (3rd best on cable for the day). The final viewership and ratings are the second best for ESPN this year behind the February 2 card which averaged 880,000 viewers and drew a 0.57 rating.
Valdez and Sanchez had a slugfest at times during their encounter but it was Valdez who came out on top with a fairly wide unanimous decision victory thanks to a knockdown scored in the fifth round. Also on the main card was 19-year-old prospect Gabriel Flores Jr. winning an eight-round decision against Salvador Briceno.
Top Rank's next card on ESPN platform is the June 15 show from Las Vegas headlined by Tyson Fury vs. Tom Schwarz and will be streamed on ESPN+ with the undercard on ESPN2. The next Top Rank on ESPN card is the June 28 card headlined by Richard Commey vs. Raymundo Beltran for the IBF lightweight title.
