MMA

Bellator 228 saw their event take over Inglewood, and see major moves in their Featherweight tournament.

Patricio Pitbull beat the brakes off of Juan Archuleta to retain his Bellator Featherweight title in a five-round drubbing. This advanced Pitbull to the second round of Bellator's World Featherweight Grand Prix Tournament as well.

AJ McKee had the most impressive performance of the entire first round. He moved to an undefeated 15-0 after a brutal eight second knockout of Georgi Karakhanyan. Earlier in the night, his father returned to the cage at the age of 49 and won via a second round TKO. After his fight, AJ McKee noted that he wanted the winner of the night's title fight. In the selection show later, McKee opted to fight in December 2019.

Elsewhere in the tournament, former Bellator Banamweight Champion Darrion Caldwell earned an incredibly boring decision victory over Henry Corrales. Daniel Weichel would beat Saul Rogers via unanimous decision to advance as well. Caldwelll would pick a March 2020 fight date on the selection show later, while Weichel selected February.

Adam Borics, who didn't fight Saturday, selected January 2020 on the selection show.

Emmanuel Sanchez would pick Daniel Weichel as his second round opponent. Derek Campos would opt to fight AJ McKee in December. Pedro Carvalho chose to fight Darrion Caldwell in March. This left Patricio Pitbull to square off with Adam Borics, but Pitbull had the "champ's choice" and instead picked Pedro Carvalho.

The fights are as follows

AJ McKee vs. Derek Campos- December

Darrion Caldwelll vs. Adam Borics- January

Emmanuel Sanchez vs. Daniel Weichel- February

Technically the night's main event saw Gegard Mousasi squeak out a split decision win over Lyoto Machida to avenge a loss in the UFC. After the bout, Mousasi called out Rafael Lovato Jr. for a Middleweight Title re-match.
