Purse Bid Winner Revealed For WBC Flyweight Title Final Eliminator

While the WBC flyweight world title is set to be contested at the O2 Arena on December 22, a final eliminator is one step closer to being a reality.

The company "Clase y Talento Boxeo" has won a purse bid to stage the title eliminator between Andrew Selby and Julio Cesar Martinez. The winning bid ended up being $60,000, which surpassed the $45,000 bid submitted by TGB Promotions.

The WBC world title at 112 pounds is currently held by Cristofer Rosales. Rosales is set to defend his title against Charlie Edwards, ranked No. 13 by the WBC, on the undercard of Dillian Whyte vs. Derek Chisora with that main event being televised on Showtime in the United States.

Selby is undefeated as a professional boxer, winning all 11 fights. Selby is the No. 1 ranked boxer by the WBC at flyweight and even owns a win over Rosales back in 2017. The 29-year-old Selby has already won the WBC International, IBF Intercontinental and British flyweight titles.

Martinez is the No. 2 contender in the WBC rankings and has won all 12 of his fights since losing his pro debut in 2015. Among the four wins Martinez has in 2018, the 23-year-old Mexican won three of them by knockout with his most recent win coming in the first round against Victor Ruiz back in October.

There is no word on when and where the fight will take place, but the winner will become the mandatory challenger to the WBC flyweight title.
