Bellator has a new addition to their flyweight division in Darina Madzyuk, the woman who went viral for knocking out a 529lb man in Russia.
The news was first reported by Barstool Sports who also report her contract will mean she exclusively fights for Bellator. The fight between Madzyuk and 529lb Grigory Chistyakov was frowned upon in some quarters with many debating whether the fight was legitimate or not. Chistyakov is a blogger with no fighting experience, with his only threat being a 390lb advantage in weight.
BREAKING: @BellatorMMA has signed Darina Madzyuk (3-1) to an exclusive contract. She will compete at flyweight and went viral earlier this month for KOing this 529lb man in Russia....pic.twitter.com/MCy5Tsz7od— Robbie Fox (@RobbieBarstool) December 15, 2020
The contest was stopped after Madzyuk dropped Chistyakov and landed some punches before the referee called for the stoppage. Cross-gender fights aren't overly popular and usually never get much publicity to prevent them from taking part. Madzyuk will be hoping to start a new chapter in Bellator and fight people of her gender and in her weight class.
