Report: Brian Castano vs. Erislandy Lara Set For March

Erislandy Lara and Brian Castano's previously agreed upon world title fight has a date and venue, according to a report.

La Nacion, a publication from Argentina, reported that Castano will defend his WBA "Regular" junior middleweight title against Lara on March 2. The fight is set to take place on Showtime at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The two sides had reportedly agreed to terms to fight, but no date was officially finalized at that point, only that the fight would take place sometime in early 2019.

This is Lara's third time competing at the Barclays Center. Lara's last fight at the venue took place in October 2017 when he defeated Terrell Gausha by unanimous decision to retain his WBA "Super" junior middleweight title. Lara would go on to lose the title to Jarrett Hurd in his next fight this past April.

Castano has held the WBA's secondary world title since 2017 after being elevated from interim champion to "Regular" titleholder. Castano has not fought in the United States since 2016 and spent his last two fights competing in France. Castano successfully defended his new version of the title this past March when he stopped Cedric Vitu in the 12th round in a boxing card in Paris.

Both boxers are currently ranked in the top 10 in Fightful?s official boxing rankings at junior middleweight. The full rankings can be seen at this link.
