This months Bellator 227 card has taken a hit because a report from Marcel Dorff of MMA DNA (citing Pietro Penini) is stating that Charlie Ward has suffered an injury and has been pulled from a bout against Pietro Penini.

There is no word yet on the nature of the injury suffered by Ward or how long the fighter is expected to be out of action for. It is also unknown at this time as to whether or not Penini will remain on the card, as Bellator officials have just under two weeks to find him a replacement opponent.

Penini (8-1-1-1NC) is making his Bellator MMA debut in this bout and does so on the strength of a two fight winning streak. Penini is the current Italian Cage Fighting Middleweight Champion, defeating Nihad Nasufovic to win the gold at ICF 6. Penini has competed a total of eleven times as a professional MMA fighter and three of those bouts went the distance.

Bellator 227 takes place on Friday, September 27 from the 3 Arena in Dublin, Ireland with Ben Henderson and Myles Jury headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs via tape delay on the Paramount Network.
