Report: David Rickels Faces AJ Matthews At Bellator 219

A welterweight division attraction has been added to the Bellator 219 card according to Rickels himself as David Rickels is going to be in action against AJ Matthews.

Rickels (20-5-0-2NC) has won three of his last four fights under the Bellator MMA banner, with those wins coming over the trio of Aaron Derrow, Adam Piccolotti and Guilherme Vasconcelos. Rickels has competed as both a lightweight and welterweight in Bellator MMA banner, earning an overall record of 12-5-0-2NC in the promotion. Rickels has seen nine of his professional MMA fights go the distance and the fighter has won eight of those encounters.

Matthews (9-8-0) has won just one of his last six professional MMA fights, with that lone win coming against Kendall Grove at Bellator 193. Matthews has spent seven-plus years competing in Bellator MMA, earning an overall record of 5-6-0 in the organization. Matthews has competed seventeen times as a professional MMA fighter and none of those bouts have ended by way of submission.

Bellator 219 takes place on Friday, March 29 from the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California with Saad Awad and Brandon Girtz headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the Paramount Network.
