Rickels (18-4-0-2NC) has won two of his last three fights under the Bellator MMA banner, with those wins coming over the duo of Bobby Cooper and Aaron Derrow. Rickels has previously challenged for the Bellator MMA Lightweight Title, losing to then champion Michael Chandler at Bellator 97.

Ward (14-6-0) enters the fight while on a two fight losing streak, dropping fights to the duo of Paul Daley and Fernando Gonzalez. Ward has only won just a single fight in the last year and that fight was against Saad Awad at Bellator 163. Ward has also competed once in the Rizin FF promotion out of Japan, defeating Ken Hasegawa by second round submission.

Bellator 185 takes place on Friday, October 20 from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut with Gegard Mousasi and Alexander Shlemenko headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Spike TV.
