A middleweight division attraction has been added to UFC Fight Night Ottawa according to Cole Shelton of BJPenn.com as #8 Derek Brunson is going to be in action against #14 Elias Theodorou.
Brunson (18-7-0) will enter the contest while in the midst of a two fight losing streak, dropping bouts to the duo of Ronaldo Souza and Israel Adesanya. Brunson hasn’t picked up a win in well over a year and that last victory did come over former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo. Brunson has seen his last four fights end within the opening round and it has been over two years since the first got out of round one.
Theodorou (16-2-0) is going to be entering the bout on the strength of a three fight winning streak, defeating the trio of Daniel Kelly, Trevor Smith and Eryk Anders. Theodorou has seen his last seven fights go the distance and it has been almost four years since the fighter got a finish. Theodorou has competed a total of eighteen times as a professional MMA fighter and more than half of those encounters went the distance.
UFC Fight Night Ottawa takes place on Saturday, May 4 from the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Canada with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
