Report: Derek Brunson Injured, Off UFC 227

A highly anticipated middleweight division bout between Derek Brunson and Antonio Carlos Jr. is off of UFC 227 according to a report from Combate.

Brunson has reportedly suffered an eye injury is what lead to his withdraw from the bout, UFC officials are seeking a replacement to fight Carlos Jr., but that fighter has yet to be named. There is no word yet as to how Brunson suffered the aforementioned eye injury or how long the top 15 ranked middleweight is going to be out of action for.

Carlos Jr (10-2-0) enters the contest on the strength of a five fight winning streak and he hasn’t suffered a defeat in over two years. Carlos Jr has seen four of his last five wins come by way of submission, while the fighter has picked up a grand total of eight career victories by submission. Carlos Jr also competed on the UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3, defeating Vitor Miranda in the finals by way of unanimous decision.
