Report: Gennadiy Golovkin Working With Eddie Hearn Moving Forward

Gennadiy Golovkin is looking to work with Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn as the two continue their respective partnership with DAZN.

According to a report from Mike Coppinger from The Athletic, Golovkin and Hearn will announce a partnership that will also serve as the formal announcement for the middleweight star's next fight, set for October 5. The fight will have Golovkin take on Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF middleweight title at Madison Square Garden and will be streamed on DAZN.

With Golovkin and Hearn working together, the possibilities of Golovkin fighting some of Matchroom's top fighters are now rock solid. Matchroom sports the likes of Billy Joe Saunders, Daniel Jacobs, Callum Smith and Demetrius Andrade, all current or former world champions at either middleweight or super middleweight.

The fight between Golovkin and Derevyanchenko came after Canelo Alvarez was stripped of the IBF title for failing to secure a deal with Derevyanchenko, who is the IBF's mandatory challenger at 160 pounds. This meant that Golovkin, the next-highest ranked available contender in the IBF rankings, was ordered to face the once-beaten contender and negotiations quickly started afterwards.

A win for Golovkin would not only mean another middleweight world title reign but also some potential leverage for a third fight against Alvarez, which failed to get locked for this September. After not being able to secure an opponent in time, Alvarez and promoter Golden Boy Promotions had previously gone on to announce that his planned September 14 fight date would be postponed with no set date for his in-ring return.
