A welterweight division attraction may be coming to the UFC 231 card according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN as #13 Alex Oliveira faces #14 Gunnar Nelson.
Oliveira (19-5-1-2NC) enters the contest on the strength of a two fight winning streak, having defeated the duo of Carlos Condit and Carlo Pedersoli Jr. Oliveira has competed as both a lightweight and a welterweight in the UFC, earning an overall record of 9-3-0-1NC in the promotion. Oliveira hasn?t suffered a defeat in almost a year, with that last loss coming to Yancy Medeiros at UFC 218.
Nelson (16-3-1) is back in action for the first time in well over a year, with his last fight taking place at UFC Fight Night Glasgow in July of 2017. Nelson has a total of sixteen wins as a professional MMA fighter and twelve of those victories were obtained by way of submission. Nelson is also competing on a UFC pay-per-view card for the first time in almost three years, with his last such appearance coming at UFC 194 in December of 2015.
