While the boxing match between Jake Paul and Ben Askren on Saturday night may not have been for everyone's tastes, but if initial reports can be believed it seems the event has done gangbusters at the box office.
According to reports from Bad Left Hook, indicate that the bout sold at least 1.45 million ppv buys, and estimates it could exceed 2 million when all of the digital sales are correctly accounted for.
"Because a person in the know informs us that the event broke the 1.45 million buy mark, and could edge up to two million buys between traditional pay-per-view and digital." Bad Left Hook reports "Usually the cable/satellite to digital buys ratio is 2-to-1 favoring 'old school' tech, but the Triller gang are still sifting, and aren’t sure what the ratio will be."
The success of the event could prove a bonanza for Paul, who's stated previously that his earnings are heavily based around backend success. Conversely, Askren stated he is not getting a PPV percentage, so his pay may only be his stated $500,000.
