A lightweight division bout may be coming to UFC 223 according to Newsday as Joe Lauzon could be standing across the Octagon from Chris Gruetzemacher.
Lauzon (27-14-0) has won just one of his last four fights under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Marcin Held via decision at UFC Fight Night 103. Lauzon hasn’t put a winning streak of any kind together in almost three years, while he also returns to a pay-per-view card for the first time since UFC 200. Lauzon also competed on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 5, making it to the semi-finals of the reality show before losing to Manny Gamburyan.
Gruetzemacher (13-3-0) enters the fight while riding a two bout losing streak, suffering defeats to both Chas Skelly and Davi Ramos. Gruetzemacher hasn’t earned a win in over two years and that last victory came over Abner Lloveras at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale. Gruetzemacher competed on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 22, losing to Artem Lobov in the quarterfinals of the show.
UFC 223 takes place on Saturday, April 7 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
