Report: Katlyn Chookagian Backup Fighter For UFC 231 Co-Main Event

Former UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Valentina Shevchenko are battling for the vacant UFC Women’s Flyweight Title in the co-main event of UFC 231.

Katlyn Chookagian is also battling Jessica Eye in a women’s flyweight division bout on the same card, but Chookagian will also serve as a backup fighter for the women’s flyweight title bout according to Shaheen Al-Shatti of MMA Fighting. Chookagian will only be competing for the title is either Jedrzejczyk and Shevchenko are unable to compete in the co-main event bout, otherwise Chookagian will still battle Eye on the card.

Chookagian was also reportedly the backup fighter for the title bout at UFC 230, but that bout was moved back to UFC 231 and Chookagian kept the role. The main event of UFC 231 also has a backup fight, as Renato Moicano will step in if either UFC Featherweight Champion max Holloway or challenger Brian Ortega are unable to compete on that night.

UFC 231 takes place on Saturday, December 8 from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with Max Holloway and Brian Ortega headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
