MMA

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor had their highly anticipated battle in the main event of UFC 229, which Nurmagomedov earning a fourth round submission win before inciting a brawl that spilled into various parts of the arena.

While it was initially believed that Nurmagomedov would be the only fighter to face disciplinary action from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), it would appear that both main event fighters are going to be in trouble.

"We will be filing against Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov," NSAC Chairman Anthony Marnell said to ESPN. "Because we withheld one purse, we will have to move expeditiously to a complaint and hearing. "We have held 100 percent of one of the fighter's money. Temporary suspensions will be out shortly, and we're shooting for a final hearing date in November."

Nurmagomedov?s $2 million fight purse is currently being held by the NSAC, but no other punishments have been issued at this time.

Marnell also states that a variety of charges can be brought against both fighters for the post-fight brawl.

"There are a lot of things here," Marnell said. "There are a lot of charges that can be brought against a spectator who came over the barricade, through the commission section and into the Octagon to strike a fighter three times. For the record, I have a massive problem with that. That cannot happen. We're taking a really hard look at that gentleman. We know exactly who he is and where he is. I have to let the attorney general determine -- is that trespassing, disturbing the peace? That was a serious action and it deserves a serious consequence."

The next NSAC is set for October 24, but the disciplinary hearings for McGregor and Nurmagomedov are expected to happen by November.
