A women’s strawweight division encounter has been added to the UFC 224 card according to MMA Brasil as Mackenzie Dern is in action against Amanda Cooper.
Dern (6-0-0) just made her UFC debut back at UFC 222, defeating Ashley Yoder by way of unanimous decision. Dern has also competed in the Legacy Fighting Alliance promotion, where she defeated fellow UFC fighter Montana De La Rosa. Dern is also competing outside of the United States for the first time as a professional MMA fighter, with her career having started less than two years ago.
Cooper (3-3-0) has rotated wins and losses throughout her UFC run, with her last fight being a second round TKO win over Angela Magana at UFC 218 in December of 2017. Cooper also made it to the finals of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 23, but lost to Tatiana Suarez in that final round. Cooper also competed once in Invicta FC, suffering a submission defeat to fellow UFC fighter Aspen Ladd.
UFC 224 takes place on Saturday, May 12 from the Jeunesse Arena in Rio De janiero, Brazil with Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
