Report: Mauricio Rua Faces Sam Alvey At UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo

A light heavyweight division attraction has been added to UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo according to Ariel Helwani of ESPN as #14 Mauricio Rua is in action against Sam Alvey.

Rua (26-11-0) has won four of his last five under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over Tyson Pedro, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Corey Anderson and Gian Villante. Rua is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, defeating Lyoto Machida by first round knockout at UFC 113 to claim the gold. Rua has picked up twenty six wins as a professional MMA fighter and twenty one of them came by way of KO/TKO.

Alvey (33-13-0-1NC) enters the contest while in the midst of a three fight losing streak, dropping bouts to the trio of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Jim Crute and Klidson Abreu. Alvey hasn’t picked up a victory in over a year, with that last victory coming over Gian Villante at UFC Fight Night Utica. Alvey has suffered a total of eight losses in the UFC, with all of those defeats coming by either KO/TKO or decision.

UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo takes place on Saturday, November 16 from the Ibirapueroa Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil with Jan Blachowicz and Ronaldo Souza headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
