Former Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler?s time in free agency has apparently come to an end because the fighter has signed a new contract to stay with Bellator MMA according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
The fighter has signed a multi-fight deal with the promotion, but the financials or exactly how many fights Chandler signed on for has yet to be revealed.
Chandler currently holds a 15-4-0 record in Bellator MMA (18-4-0 overall) and is currently in the midst of a two fight winning streak. Chandler is also a two time Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion, defeating the duo of former UFC/Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez and Patricky Pitbull to start both reigns.
A newly signed Chandler also picked up notable wins over Marcin Held, Akihiro Gono, Rick Hawn, David Rickels, Derek Campos, former UFC Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson, Goiti Yamauchi and Brandon Girtz while competing in the Viacom owned promotion. Chandler was last seen in action in the main event of Bellator 197, defeating the aforementioned Girtz by first round submission.
One fight that has peaked Chandler?s interest in recent weeks was a third bout with Eddie Alvarez, who is a free agent as of this writing.
It is unknown at this time as to when Chandler will step back into the Bellator cage or whom that opponent could be.
