Report: Miguel Cotto vs. David Lemieux In The Works For December HBO Card

The last few months of Miguel Cotto's long career could reportedly involve a fight against a former middleweight world champion.

According to RingTV.com, Cotto could be fighting David Lemieux in December should Cotto defeat Yoshihiro Kamegai for the vacant WBO junior middleweight title on August 26. Cotto vs. Lemieux would reportedly take place December 2 on an HBO card in New York, where Cotto has had some of his biggest fights take place. Cotto has competed in title fights 11 times in New York, mostly at Madison Square Garden.

Cotto has been very vocal over his intentions to retire at the end of 2017 and wanted one last big fight. Cotto was supposed to fight James Kirkland back in February, but an injury to Kirkland weeks before the fight ended plans for Cotto to fight for the first time since late 2015. Cotto's last fight saw him lose to Canelo Alvarez on an HBO pay-per-view main event.

Lemieux is most recently coming off of a unanimous decision win over Marcos Reyes this past May on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. undercard. The win came just a couple months after scoring a big knockout win over Curtis Stevens in March.

Cotto vs. Kamegai will headline the HBO card that will run around the same time the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor pay-per-view is taking place.
