Report: Mikey Garcia vs. Danny Garcia In The Works For August

Mikey Garcia is reportedly not done yet as a welterweight and will look to bounce back from his first pro loss by taking on a former world champion.

Reports from both Mike Coppinger and Lance Pugmire indicate that Mikey and Danny Garcia are in advanced talks to face each other with a fight potentially taking place in August at the Staples Center. The fight would be put together by PBC and one broadcast option is to have the fight be a Fox pay-per-view, though that is yet to be set in stone.

Mikey, a four-division world champion, is coming off an unsuccessful challenge for Errol Spence Jr.'s IBF welterweight title back in March. The fight, which took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, saw Mikey lose to Spence by unanimous decision.

After the loss, Mikey vacated his WBC lightweight title and was named "Emeritus Champion" as he indicated that he would not be moving back down to lightweight for his next fight, but never said whether or not he would go to junior welterweight or welterweight. Mikey is currently ranked No. 3 by the WBA at 147 pounds.

Danny is a former junior welterweight and welterweight world champion, but has won just two of his last four fights with both losses being in title fights. Danny's last attempt at a world title came in September 2018 when he lost a close decision to current WBC champion Shawn Porter. The 31-year-old fighter, ranked No. 2 by the WBA, is coming off a seventh-round knockout win over Adrian Granados back on April 20.
