A welterweight division attraction has been added to UFC 244 according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN (citing UFC President Dana White) as #9 Stephen Thompson is going to be in action against #14 Vicente Luque.
Thompson (14-4-1) has won just one of his last five under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 217. Thompson has twice before challenged for the UFC Welterweight Title, fighting then champion Tyron Woodley to a majority draw at UFC 205 and losing to the aforementioned Woodley at UFC 209. Thompson has picked up fourteen wins as a professional MMA fighter and half of them came by way of KO/TKO.
Luque (17-6-1) will enter the contest on the strength of a six fight winning streak and he hasn’t suffered a loss in over two years. Luque has suffered just two defeats in UFC competition, with those losses coming to Michael Graves and Leon Edwards. Luque has suffered six losses as a professional MMA fighter and none of them have come by way of KO/TKO.
