In his last eight fights Dillashaw has won seven fights and his only loss in that stretch came when he lost the championship to Dominick Cruz. Garbrandt was undefeated with eleven wins until his loss to Dillashaw at UFC 217. The two fighters were supposed to fight at UFC 213 after a season as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter but the bout was delayed due to Garbrandt's injury.

The fight is expected to be announced soon and will be at UFC 227 in Los Angeles at the Staples Center. No other fights have been announced for the card but it is unclear if Dillashaw and Garbrandt will be the main event.
