A lightweight division attraction is heading to the UFC 229 card according to MMA Junkie as former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion #2 Tony Ferguson is going to be in action against former UFC Lightweight Champion #8 Anthony Pettis.
Ferguson (23-3-0) enters the contest on the strength of a ten fight winning streak and he hasn’t suffered a defeat in over six years. Ferguson is a former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion, defeating Kevin Lee to win the gold via submission at UFC 216. Ferguson never actually lost the interim lightweight title, but was stripped of it when a new UFC Lightweight Champion was crowned at UFC 223.
Pettis (21-7-0) has rotated wins and losses in his last six UFC bouts, with his last bout being a submission victory over Michael Chiesa at UFC 226. Pettis is a former UFC Lightweight Champion, submitting Ben Henderson at UFC 164 to claim the strap. Pettis had also previously challenged for the UFC Interim Featherweight Title, losing to Max Holloway via third round TKO at UFC 206.
