Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao is a free agent now after the fighter was released by the promotion.
Combate first reported the news, although an exact reason that Barao was let go isn’t known at this time. Barao is now the second fighter released by the UFC in as many days, as Liz Carmouche was also let go by the promotion.
Barao (34-9-0-1NC, 9-8-0 UFC) exits the promotion on a five fight losing streak, having dropped bouts to Aljamain Sterling, Brian Kelleher, Andre Ewell, Luke Sanders and Douglas Silva De Andrade. Barao hasn’t picked up a victory in over three years, with that last victory coming over Phillipe Nover at UFC Fight Night 95 in September of 2016. Barao is a former UFC Bantamweight Champion, defeating Urijah Faber by unanimous decision at UFC 149 to win the gold. Barao suffered eight losses during his time with the UFC and five of them came by way of decision.
The fighter is now gonna be free to sign with whatever promotion wants his services now that Barao is a free agent.
