MMA

A bantamweight division fight is being targeted for a yet to be announced January UFC event that would pit #4 Jimmie Rivera up against #5 Bryan Caraway. Ariel Helwani was the first to break the story.

Rivera (20-1-0) has already achieved four victories in the UFC, defeating Marcus Brimage, Pedro Munhoz, Iuri Alcantara and Urijah Faber. Rivera is also a former King Of The Cage Bantamweight Champion, defeating Abel Cullum to win the belt in September 2010. Rivera is currently riding a nineteen fight winning streak, a winning streak that has lasted nearly eight years at this point.

Caraaway (21-7-0) has won four of his last five under the UFC banner, defeating Johnny Bedford, Erik Perez, Eddie Wineland and Aljamain Sterling. Caraway was a cast member of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 14, John Dodson was the eventual winner of that season. Caraway will be competing on his fifth straight “fight night” card, he has not competed on a UFC pay-per-view in nearly four years.

According to Ariel Helwani, the only hold up to this fight is Caraway, who wants to fight once more in 2016, Helwani says he may not want to wait until January 2017 to fight.

The yet to be announced UFC event takes place on Sunday, January 15. Location is not yet determined.
