Victor Vargotskii, Georges St-Pierre's former coach, seems to be in trouble with the law.
Vargotskii was former two-division UFC champion's kickboxing coach until GSP lost the welterweight title to Matt Serra at UFC 69 in April of 2007. Vargotskii, who even appeared on an episode of UFC All Access in 2007, was arrested by authorities in Argentina, according to the Montreal Gazette. Vargotskii is actually a wanted man in Canada for his role in a massive money-laundering operation.
GSP?s former kickboxing coach is just one of 19 suspects that have been arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in connection with the money-laundering scheme, which also included narcotics trafficking. The RCMP has also seized assets worth over $32 million (USD) in cannabis, cocaine, hashish, methamphetamines, foreign currencies, properties and other assets.
?The network moved money collected in Montreal through various individuals and currency exchange offices in Toronto,? said the RCMP in a press release obtained by Bloody Elbow. ?The network used an informal value transfer system (IVTS) with connections in Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, the United States and China. The funds were then returned to the drug-exporting countries, such as Colombia and Mexico.?
St. Pierre switched kickboxing coaches after the Serra loss, replacing Vargotskii with Phil Nurse.
