UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Olenik Prelims Highlights: Kevin Holland, Andrew Sanchez Score Big KOs

Tim Means def.  Laureano Staropoli by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Means made effective use of his wrestling early in the fight. The majority of round one was contested on the feet with both guys landing. He dropped Staropoli in the second with a nasty head kick, and continued to control the fight with a mixture of striking and grappling.

Kevin Holland def. Joaquin Buckley by TKO, 0:32 of round three

Holland and Buckley put on a cracking striking affair, arguably splitting rounds one and two. Holland put a quick and decisive end to the fight at the start of round three, rendering the judges obsolete. Holland leveled Buckley with a straight right and the referee immediately jumped in.

Nasrat Haqparast def. Alexander Munoz by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Munoz took charge early with a blitzing takedown. Unfortunately for him, Haqparast took control of round one with big, bad boxing for the remainder of the round. Haqparast showed improved takedown defense following the initial one and staggered Munhoz with his power.

Haqparast continued to piece up Munoz in the second. A right hook, left hook combo had Munoz in trouble, and follow-up blitz nearly closed out the show. Munoz grabbed his opponent's shorts to aid in his survival, eliciting a complaint from Haqparast. He was unable to put away Munoz but not for a lack of trying. Haqparast essentially used his opponent's head as a punching bag en route to a clear decision.

Andrew Sanchez def. Wellington Turman by KO, 4:14 of round one

Sanchez channelled the power of his mullet into explosive power from his right hand. He plastered Turman with a counter right cross. He followed up shortly after with the same one-two combination, dropping his opponent. Turman was already finished but two hammer fists punctuated a beautiful performance by Sanchez.

Gavin Tucker def. Justin Jaynes by submission, 1:43 of round three

Tucker came alive in the second round after nearly losing the fight ? and his shorts ? in the opening stanza. Jaynes dropped Tucker with a big punch and subsequently snatched a guillotine that had Tucker in all sorts of trouble. The Canadian flipped and flopped in desperation, eventually wiggling himself out of the choke, and nearly out of his shorts. Tucker made up for lost time, latching on an arm-triangle choke for the remainder of round one. Tucker came alive in the second. He stumbled his opponent with head kicks, kept him at bay with teeps and elbowed him from all angles. Jaynes was noticeably frustrated heading into the third.

It was more of the same in the final round. Jaynes tried a desperation takedown which was stuffed by Tucker, ultimately leading to a back take. Tucker fished for a rear-naked choke and eventually secured it at 1:43 of round three.

Youssef Zalal def. Peter Barrett by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-27)

Zalal showed signs of a potential superstar on Saturday with a one-sided beatdown of Barrett. He landed an insane spinning kick early in round one that floored Barrett. A barrage of ground-and-pound nearly put Barrett away but the underdog showed grit in an effort to survive. Rounds two and three were almost as dominant for Zalal but without the near-finish. Zalal showed off patience and diversity as he interchanged striking and grappling en route to a sweep.

Irwin Rivera def. Ali AlQaisi by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Rivera and AlQaisi showed off diverse skill-sets and inhuman toughness in a closely contested split decision. Both men landed crunching blows to granite chins and worked through close submission attempts. Two of three judges saw the fight in favor of Rivera in a decision that could have gone either way.
