After Brazil experienced heartbreak earlier in the day with its women's soccer team losing in the semifinals against Sweden, Olympic history was made as lightweight boxer Robson Conceiçāo became the first Brazilian boxer to ever win a gold medal. He defeated Sofiane Oumiha of France to win the gold.
Unfortunately, the day also brought another controversial finish. This time, it was in the bantamweight division where many people believed that Michael Conlan was robbed of a victory from the judges that would have guaranteed him a bronze medal at the very least. Conlan was not happy in the slightest bit and did not mince any words and verbally chewed out the officiating.
