Ronda Rousey Says She Reached Out To Dana White And UFC About Gina Carano Fight

On Tuesday, Netflix announced that Ronda Rousey will face Gina Carano in a dream fight on May 16.
Rousey and Carano are pioneers in women’s MMA and the two most popular female MMA fighters of all time.
Speaking to ESPN, Rousey revealed the fight was offered to Dana White and the UFC before ultimately landing with Jake Paul’s MVP and Netflix.
Rousey said that she was watching an interview Gina when she was nine months pregnant and thought Gina “didn’t look good” and “gained an unhealthy amount of weight,” so she wanted to do something for her.
“I always said Gina was the one person I would come back and fight. I thought, ‘she needs this fight.’ The more that I thought about it, ‘I need this. I need this fight.’ I reached out to Dana (White) and asked him if he’d be interested in it. It didn’t exactly work out with the UFC, but it led us to today,” she said.
The fight between the two will be contested at 145 pounds.
Ronda Rousey (12-2) has not fought since 2016 when she was KO’d by Amanda Nunes. Carano (7-1) has not fought since 2009 when she was stopped by Cris Cyborg.
