Ryan Garcia To Headline September 1 Golden Boy Card On Facebook

Ryan Garcia is set to fight on a September 1 Golden Boy Boxing card to be streamed on Facebook.

Garcia, the NABF and NABO super featherweight champion, will fight NABA champion Carlos Morales on September 1 in the main event of a Golden Boy Promotions boxing card that will be streamed on Facebook. The promotional company made the announcement on Twitter, which can be seen below.

The fight will be Garcia’s third in 2018 as he continues to climb up the super featherweight rankings and get a world title shot. Garcia is currently ranked in the top 10 in the WBA and WBO rankings at 130 pounds.

Garcia has had a big year so far, knocking out former title challenger Fernando Vargas in the first round and then headlined a Golden Boy boxing card on ESPN on the day before Gennady Golovkin’s unified middleweight title defense against Vanes Martirosyan. On that May 4 fight, Garcia snapped Jayson Velez’s three-fight win streak with a unanimous decision win.

Morales has not fought since last December when he scored a technical decision win over Dardan Zenunaj. The fight was stopped in the sixth round after a clash of heads forced the doctor to stop the fight and go to the scorecards due to a bad cut over Morales’ right eye. That win was Morales’ first since losing a unanimous decision to Alberto Machado, who is now the WBA “regular” super featherweight world champion, a year ago.

The fight is the latest one announced in the relationship between Facebook, Main Events and Golden Boy Promotions. The first fight to be streamed on Facebook will be Jesus Rojas defending his WBA “regular” featherweight title against Joseph Diaz and will take place on August 11.
