Santiago Ponzinibbio Wants To Fight Tyron Woodley At UFC 249, With One Arm Tied Behind His Back

Santiago Ponzinibbio hasn’t competed since UFC Fight Night Buenos Aires, where he defeated Neil Magny by fourth round knockout.

A soon to be returning Ponzinibbio is willing to fight former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley at UFC 249, even with one hand tied behind his back.

“I’ve been away for a while with an injury and I haven’t trained for a while. What more does he want?” said Ponzinibbio to MMA Fighting. “He only takes easy fights so I’m coming off an injury, which is great for him, but I’ll still beat the sh*t out of him and knock him out in the first round. I’m not training, I’m away for a year and a half, there are no other advantages I can give him. I’ll fight with one arm tied behind my back if he wants, and I’ll still beat the sh*t out of this guy and knock him out in the first round. Let’s see if he’s man enough to take this fight.”

Woodley has yet to respond to the challenge from Ponzinibbio, but has stated in the past that he would be willing to fight on short notice at UFC 249.

The former welterweight champion has mentioned former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Colby Covington as an opponent for UFC 249, but Ponzinibbio believes Covington is too injured to accept that bout.

“He’s asking for Colby Covington but he’s not ready, he fractured his jaw. I’m ready, brother,” Ponzinibbio said. “I’m ready to beat him up.”

UFC 249 takes place on Saturday, April 18 from a location to be announced with Tony Ferguson and an opponent to be announced headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
