The upcoming Matchroom Boxing USA show from The Forum just got another interesting fight on the undercard as Scott Quigg's opponent has been announced.
Quigg will face super featherweight contender Jayson Velez on the April 26 show that will be streamed on DAZN in the United States. The fight continues Quigg's march up the super featherweight rankings in the hopes of becoming a two-division world champion.
The 30-year-old Quigg is coming off a second-round TKO win over Mario Briones last October which started Quigg's first real run in the 130-pound division. Prior to that fight, Quigg unsuccessfully challenged for the WBO featherweight title, losing a 12-round decision against Oscar Valdez. Unfortunately for Quigg, even if he had beaten Valdez, he would not have won the title as Quigg was overweight the day before the fight and was ineligible to win the belt. Quigg once held the WBA super bantamweight title from 2013 to 2016.
Velez, a Puerto Rican boxer who once challenged for the IBF featherweight title in 2014, has enjoyed a very successful run after his career took a downward spiral, losing four straight fights from 2015 to 2016. Since those four consecutive defeats, Velez won three straight, including a win over former world champion Juan Manuel Lopez in 2018. Velez's win streak was snapped afterwards when he lost to Ryan Garcia last year. The 31-year-old Velez is currently on a two-fight win streak, last fighting in March when he stopped Victor Terrazas in the fourth round.
The rest of the card from The Forum is one of the deepest of the year from Matchroom Boxing USA so far. In the main event, the highly-anticipated rematch between Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Juan Francisco Estrada for the WBC super flyweight title will happen 14 months after their first encounter. Also on the card is a super bantamweight title unification between WBA champion Daniel Roman and IBF champion TJ Doheny and a fight between former champions Jessie Vargas and Humberto Soto at a 151-pound catchweight.
