Stevenson recently spoke to reportsers and said he has no plans to rush to a world title match so early in his career like Lomachenko. Stevenson did say he wants to challenge for a world title within a few years and wishes he could fight Lomachenko one day.
“I don’t want to rush it like Lomachenko because he started a bit older,” Stevenson said. “I don’t really need to rush that much because I am only 19 years old, but I do want to work fast and get a title shot when I’m 21, maybe 22 years old. I want to fight him one day. That’s my dream fight… I think we would meet at 130 pounds.”
Stevenson has only fought twice as a pro, defeating Edgar Brito on April 22 and beating Carlos Suarez in the first round on May 20. Lomachenko, who is also a former Olympic medalist after winning the gold medal in the 2008 Olympics (featherweight) and in the 2012 Olympics (lightweight). Lomachenko is still trying to find his next opponent, which is likely going to be Orlando Salido for later in the summer.
