It turns out that the bout at UFC 244 was the final one under Burgos? current contract and the fighter would like to sign a new deal with the UFC.
?A ranked opponent would only make sense for me now, but whatever the UFC wants. That was the last fight on my contract, so hopefully I made a statement. I want a big deal next,? Burgos said after the event (via Matt Erickson & Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie).
Burgos currently holds a 6-1-0 record in the UFC and is ranked #12 in the UFC Featherweight Division.
The fighter has also competed twice now in Madison Square Garden, but Burgos says his second experience was better than the first one.
?The first time I competed in MSG, it was quick, like two minutes or something, so I didn?t have a chance to embrace it. This time, I soaked it in: walking out, being in there, walking back ? I soaked it all in. It was awesome. It means a lot to me. You heard how loud the place was. I have so many friends and family here and my team, I knew the crowd would be electrifying,? says Burgos.
There has been no comment from the UFC at this time as to Burgos? status with the company.
