The boxing world will only have to wait a less than two additional months in order to see Terence Crawford's welterweight debut.
According to multiple reports, first reported by Dan Rafael of ESPN, the WBO welterweight title fight between Jeff Horn and Crawford, originally set for April 14 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, will now take place on June 9. The rescheduled fight will no longer take place at the Mandalay Bay, but instead, take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The fight was supposed to headline a world title tripleheader on ESPN. ESPN will still handle broadcasting duties, but at the moment, it is unsure if the fight will be shown live on the main ESPN channel or be streamed exclusively on the ESPN+ subscription app that is due to launch later this spring.
The fight got postponed because Crawford suffered a hand injury during training. The injury was relatively minor and Crawford did not suffer any torn ligaments, meaning the fight would have been moved back only for a few weeks.
As for the rest of the undercard, there will be at least some changes from the original card. The WBO super bantamweight title fight between Jessie Magdaleno and Isaac Dogboe that was supposed to take place on that card has since been moved to the April 28 Top Rank Boxing card in Philadelphia as its new main event.
Crawford will challenge for his first world title at welterweight after vacating his unified WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO junior welterweight titles. Horn will be making a second defense of the title he won in the summer of 2017.
