Tevin Farmer’s storybook comeback continues with a quick fight in Boston.
Farmer retained his IBF super featherweight title with a fifth-round knockout win over James Tennyson. This was Farmer’s first title defense since winning the vacant belt against Billy Dib back in August.
After a first round that saw both fighters feel each other out, Farmer quickly went to work on the body. The body work proved to be the difference maker, starting the fourth round. Farmer knocked down Tennyson with a left hook to the body in that round and followed it up with another body shot knockdown in the fifth round. Less than two minutes into the fifth round, the referee stopped the fight and Farmer’s first title defense was a success.
But Farmer wasn’t going to cap off his night silently as he issued a challenge to WBA “super” super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis. The two have been feuding on social media with Farmer continuously calling out the two-time world champion.
Farmer’s callout did not go unnoticed as Davis tweeted the following.
The win capped off a roller coaster 15 months for Farmer, who, this time last year, was recovering from a gunshot wound to one of his hands. Farmer then fought for the vacant IBF title last December but lost a highly controversial decision to Kenichi Ogawa. It was then revealed that Ogawa tested positive for a banned substance and thus, the fight was declared a no contest and the title vacant once more. Farmer then went on to win the title in August.
