Thomas Dulorme Gets Draw Against Jessie Vargas Thanks To Late Knockdown

Despite a spirited performance from Thomas Dulorme for the first 11 rounds of his fight against Jessie Vargas, Dulorme was on his way to a close decision loss until a flash knockdown saved him from losing his second straight fight.

With less than 30 seconds remaining in the final round, Dulorme took down Vargas in the main event of Matchroom Boxing USA's first card streamed on DAZN. As a result of the knockdown, the fight ended in a majority draw (115-111 Vargas, 113-113, 113-113) which meant the vacant WBC Silver welterweight title that was on the line remains vacant.

Dulorme, fighting for the first time since an August 2017 loss to Yordenis Ugas, came out on fire, scoring big uppercuts to Vargas in the first two rounds. Vargas managed to even the score in the next couple of rounds with some tactical fighting, outboxing Dulorme as Vargas' footwork gave him the upper hand when it came to exchanges.

The two would trade blows all throughout the fight, but Dulorme was starting to get some momentum by hurting Vargas numerous times in the middle portion of the fight. Vargas got his shots in, but none was bigger than a knockdown scored midway into the 10th round. Dulorme got back up and continued to throw as much as he can, hoping for a knockout. Dulorme managed to score the flash knockdown very late into the 12th round which gave him the 10-8 round that made two of the three judges give the fight an even score of 113-113.

The fight was claimed to be a final eliminator for the WBC welterweight title currently being held by Shawn Porter. Even if the fight was a title eliminator, the winner would have have to compete with the likes of Andre Berto, Keith Thurman and Yordenis Ugas over who would be the first challenger for Porter's WBC title.

This is now the second straight fight Vargas has fought to a majority draw with him getting one judge to score the fight in his favor. Prior to the fight against Dulorme, Vargas fought Adrien Broner to a draw at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn back in April.
