Three-Time NCAA Champion Bo Nickal Making Transition To MMA

Three-time NCAA Division I National Champion wrestler Bo Nickal is making the transition to mixed martial arts.

Nickal spoke with My MMA News' John Eric Poli at the opening of the latest American Top Team gym in Happy Valley, Pennsylvania, and discussed his plans for the move to MMA.

"My plan right now is to get a couple amateur fights by the end of the year, and then turn pro early next year," Nickal said. "I would like to get a few like I said amateur fights, get some experience, and then we'll see. I don't even have an idea of what organization I would like to sign with or anything like that, but definitely, the plan is to go all-in on MMA."

He continued on to say he plans on making the ATT branch in Happy Valley his home base for fight camps but does plan on visiting the main gym in Coconut Creek, Florida often as well. Nickal went 120-3 during his career at Penn State as a freestyle wrestler and lost to fellow Nittany Lion great Dave Taylor in the 2020 US Olympic Team Trials in his bid to qualify for the most recent summer Olympic games.

"This will be home base and this will be where I do my fight camps," he said. "But I will be down in Coconut Creek, South Florida a lot. I was actually just down there maybe like ten days ago. I did a full week of training, I got to work with some awesome guys. Got to work with Mike Brown, do a lot of one-on-one lessons, and got a lot of good coaching down there."
