After Tony Bellew called out David Haye when Bellew retained his world cruiserweight title last month, it was only a matter of time before the two would square off and now they will.
Bellew will take on Haye, a former world heavyweight champion, on March 4 at the O2 Arena in London. Promoter Eddie Hearn told ESPN the fight will be a bout between two knockout artists looking to knock each other out. Bellew will move up to heavyweight for the fight.
"This is just a huge, huge fight," Hearn said. "One of the best heavyweights in the world against the best cruiserweight in the world. An explosion of concussive punchers riddled with bad blood and desperate to score a knockout victory. The build-up will be electric as will fight night. I, like millions of fight fans around the world, cannot wait."
Bellew delivered a quick performance back on October 15 in his first defense as the WBC Cruiserweight champion when he scored a TKO victory against BJ Flores in the third round. Bellew then walked towards Haye, who was attending the fight, and yelled at him "I'm the champion."
Bellew had not lost a fight in three years, last being bested when he challenged Adonis Stevenson for the lineal light heavyweight world titles in 2013. Since moving to cruiserweight, Bellew had been amongst the top boxers in the division.
Haye had won all three of his fights since losing to Wladimir Klitschko back in 2011 during Klitschko's undefeated streak where he won most of the heavyweight world titles.
The fight will be broadcasted on Sky Sports pay-per-view and a press conference to kick off the promotional tour will take place next week.
