Weeks after the rematch between Tony Bellew and David Haye got postponed due to an injury Bellew suffered, a new date for the fight has been revealed.
The fight has been rescheduled for May 5 and will take place at O2 Arena, the site of their first encounter in which Bellew won.
Haye had been out of action since the first grudge match between Haye and Bellew due to a ruptured Achilles tendon Haye suffered in the sixth round back in the March fight. The injury Haye had in November was different, however as according to Haye, the injury was a freak accident during a conditioning session and that he wouldn't be fit to fight Bellew on December 17, which was the original date for the rematch.
The rematch figures to be one of the biggest boxing matches on the U.K. calendar for 2018. The rivalry started with a shouting match between the two last year at ringside moments after Bellew retained his WBC cruiserweight title. Bellew stepped up in weight to fight Haye and potentially compete for a heavyweight world championship.
The buildup to the first fight was equally as volatile, with profanities being thrown around to the point that Haye got fined by the British Boxing Board of Control. According to Boxrec.com, Bellator MMA fighter Michael "Venom" Page is scheduled to fight on the undercard after picking up a win in his pro boxing debut back in October against Jonathan Castano, which also took place at the O2 Arena.
