A clash of top 5 light heavyweights is heading to UFC 214 as #3 Jimi Manuwa is taking on #5 Volkan Oezdemir.
UFC officials confirmed the news on Wednesday.
Manuwa (17-2-0) has won three of his last four under the UFC banner, with those three wins coming over Jan Blochowicz, Ovince St. Preux and Corey Anderson. Manuwa once had a four fight stretch as a professional MMA fighter where he won fights by either fighter retirement or from injuring a fighter during their bout. Manuwa has only suffered two defeats in his professional MMA career, those defeats came at the hands of Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Johnson.
Oezdemir (14-1-0) is currently undefeated thus far in UFC competition, having defeated the duo of Ovince St. Preux and Misha Cirkunov. Oezdemir has only suffered a single defeat as a professional MMA fighter, that loss came to Kelly Anundson at Bellator 155. Oezdemir is going to enter this bout on a four fight winning streak and he hasn’t suffered a defeat in well over three years.
UFC 214 takes place on Saturday, July 29 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
