Everybody loves a good KO, but what’s even better than that? A near-double KO.
Bellator 180 was full of memorable moments, whether good or bad, but one moment that fans and fighters alike will remember is the double knockdown Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Mitrione had about a minute into their fight in the co-main event of the pay-per-view.
Twitter exploded with tons of reactions to the moment. From UFC fighters to Bellator's own fighters, there wasn't a shortage of reactions to the 74-second fight. Below are just a few of the MMA community's reactions to the crazy double knockdown and Emelianenko's loss.
The two men knocked each other down with right jabs, but Mitrione was able to get back up quickly and finish the job early in the fight with several strikes while Emelianenko was unable to defend himself on the ground. It was Emelianenko’s first MMA fight in the United States since 2011, but the fight was supposed to have happened earlier this year, but Mitrione fell too ill to fight, postponing “The Last Emperor’s” return for a few months.
Even though Emelianenko lost, there aren’t fighters still wanting to fight the heavyweight legend. Chael Sonnen, who headlined the Bellator card with a unanimous decision victory over Wanderlei Silva, said he wants to fight Emelianenko.
