A pair of bouts have been added to the UFC 221 card as #5 Jussier Formiga faces #8 Ben Nguyen in a flyweight bout and Tyson Pedro faces Saparbek Safarov.
Formiga (20-5-0) has rotated wins and losses in his last five UFC bouts, with his last encounter being a victory over Yuta Sasaki at UFC Fight Night Japan. Formiga earned a submission win at UFC Fight Night Japan and it was the first time he got a finish since subbing Scott Jorgensen at UFC Fight Night 38.
Nguyen (16-6-0) enters the fight riding a two bout winning streak, defeating the duo of Tim Elliott and Geane Herrera. Nguyen is also a former Nitro MMA Flyweight Champion, defeating Reese McLaren to win the gold in October of 2014.
Pedro (6-1-0) has won two of three in the UFC, with those two victories coming over Khalil Rountree and Paul Craig. Pedro has seen just one of his professional MMA fights go the distance and that came against Ilir Latifi at UFC 215.
Safarov (8-1-0) is currently winless under the UFC banner, dropping a fight to Gian Villante at UFC Fight Night 102. Safarov has yet to see any of his professional MMA fights go the distance and the fighter has been competing since November of 2010.
