Former two division UFC champion Georges St. Pierre recently announced his retirement from professional MMA competition.

Tyron Woodley is the current UFC Welterweight Champion and he wouldn’t mind an opportunity to fight the retired GSP.

“I think Georges has done what he needed to do in the sport,” Woodley said at a UFC 235 media lunch (via MMA Junkie). “He didn’t have to prove it. Of course, I want him to fight me. But that’s for me. That’s for my legacy. He didn’t need to fight Tyron Woodley.”

GSP said he wanted to fight UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov before announcing the retirement, but neither Woodley or Ben Askren were mentioned as possible opponents.

Askren is holding out hope that a bout between the two can still come together in the future.

“I don’t feel like he set a hard line in the sand,” Askren said. “I felt like he set the door open if something interests him in the future.”

UFC 235 takes place on Saturday, March 2 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Jon Jones and Anthony Smith headlining. Fightful is going to be providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
