Here we go again with Tyson Fury.
Former unified world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury wants to un-retire yet again and box Anthony Joshua. Fury sent out a lengthy statement on Twitter asking the British Boxing Board of Control and the U.K. Anti-Doping Agency to conclude their investigations into Fury's failed drug tests so that he could potentially get his boxing license back.
"How long must I be held up and kept out of action, it's been 15 months since I've been under investigation. You're keeping an innocent man from filing his destiny and from providing for his family. Everybody else is dealt within a few months, why must I be treated differently? Surely there must be a human rights law preventing this from happening to people! Either ban me or set me free as I've been in limbo for a long time! I want to move on with my life! Clear my name & let me return to my former glory."
The former heavyweight champion was also present in London on September 16 to support his good friend Billy Joe Saunders, who retained his WBO middleweight title against Willie Monroe Jr. Fury told BT Sport during the Saunders vs. Monroe Jr. broadcast he still is hoping to get a fight against unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
"I've got to get some more weight off, I've lost nearly two stones in two weeks," Fury said. "I've turned my life around and feel a lot better than I did before. I'm enjoying the gym work, and that's how it supposed to be, so I'm on the right path. They call me, 'The Boomerang.' I always come back. [Joshua] is a fight I can win with my boxing skills."
Since Fury defeated Wladimir Klitschko to win the unified WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles in 2015, Fury's life spiraled out of control. Fury was submitted to a random urine test last year in England and the results came back positive for the substance benzoylecgonine, the central compound found in cocaine and the marker for a positive test for the banned substance. According to reports at the time, Fury's doctor believes that he may be suffering from mental health issues.
Fury also had his license suspended indefinitely by the British Boxing Board of Control and gained a significant amount of weight and was not in ring-shape. In addition, even if Fury wanted to box, he still faces a U.K. Anti-Doping hearing for a previous charge of using a performance-enhancing drug, the banned steroid Nandrolone, stemming from before he defeated Klitschko in 2015.
Fury retired for a second time back in July, but sources back then said they did not believe Fury would follow through with his retirement. There is still no word on when, and if, there will be further hearings on Fury's failed drug tests or when there is a timetable for Fury to regain his boxing license.
