UFC 202: Conor McGregor: "The King Is Back"

MMA

It looks like we are getting a third fight between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor after all, if everything goes well.

The UFC Featherweight Champion McGregor defeated Diaz in one of the best UFC fights in recent memory, winning via majority decision. McGregor only had a few words to open up his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan and speak on his redemption.

"Surprise, surprise motherfucker. The king is back," McGregor said.

After an intense first round that had McGregor bloody up Diaz badly, McGregor was starting to lose to Diaz in the middle portion of the fight where it seemed like Diaz was going to knock out McGregor.

But the fourth round, something McGregor had never been in his professional MMA career, provided a second win for the Irishman and performed well under the pressure and did just enough in the fourth and fifth rounds to win in the scorecards.

The steam this match was getting from various platforms in media was unparalleled, but both fighters, if it was possible, exceeded the lofty expectations the fight made for itself. Now al that is left is the trilogy and McGregor said that he wants the third fight to take place at 155 pounds. Diaz also said that he wanted a third fight when he was interviewed post-fight.

Now one thing to look at is whether or not the rubber match will be both fighters' next fight. UFC President Dana White said that, win or lose, McGregor's next fight will be defending his UFC Featherweight Title, which was not on the line as the fight was contested at 170 pounds, or he will be forced to vacate it.

Nonetheless, it seems that the UFC world will be heading into a third McGregor-Diaz fight at some point in the future.
