UFC 216 Main Event Winner May Not Get Lightweight Title Unification Fight

MMA

Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee are set to clash for the vacant UFC Interim Lightweight Title in the main event of UFC 216.

UFC President Dana White says the winner of the interim title fight may not get a title unification fight against UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.

?I don?t know, we?ll see,? White said at the UFC 216 media day. ?I haven?t focused on anything except this fight (between Mayweather and McGregor).?

McGregor took on legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather this weekend, dropping the fight in the tenth round via TKO in his first boxing bout.

Upon learning that he could get passed over in a title unification bout, a less than thrilled Ferguson expressed his opinion on the matter.

?Trilogy fight(McGRegor vs. Nate Diaz III)? You are (expletive) ridiculous,? Ferguson said at the media day. ?Defend or vacate. You want you money fight. You?re fighting the wrong Mexican. ? When you get done playing grab-ass in the boxing ring come back and defend or vacate.?

UFC 216 takes place on Saturday, October 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
